3 Benefits of Being Involved in Your Child's Early Education

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our Calgary Montessori preschool has introduced a virtual daycare program to ensure your child’s learning and development continues during this difficult time. It also gives parents a great opportunity to become more involved in their child’s early childhood education.

With our extremely busy day-to-day lives, it can feel like a huge undertaking to take a more active role in your child’s education, but it doesn’t have to be! There are so many small ways to start getting more involved, including:

  • Being mindful of the things you say about education around your child
  • Brainstorming a few goals for your child to achieve during the school year
  • Taking advantage of our virtual daycare program to ensure your child’s continued learning and development
  • Communicating and building strong relationships with your child’s teachers

Remember, your interest and attention will go a very long way in fostering a love of learning in your child, and supporting his/her activity and achievement in the classroom.

Our Virtual Montessori Program is Designed to Promote Learning & Continued Development in Our Students During COVID-19

3 Reasons Why Parents Should Take a More Active Role In Their Child’s Education

At our Calgary Montessori preschool, we truly believe our students learn best when parents take a more active role in their child’s education. In fact, one of the biggest influences on a child’s learning success comes form how invested you, as a parent, are in his/her education.

Becoming involved in your child’s early education doesn’t have to be a huge challenge, and it can take many small forms, such as:

  • Setting achievable and measurable academic goals together
  • Engaging in regular and open communication with your child’s educators
  • Reading or doing an activity together for half an hour every evening

No matter what approach you take, the most important thing is to take an active and ongoing interest in your child’s learning and our virtual Montessori learning program can provide the first step in doing so.

Here are 3 incredible benefits of parental involvement in a child’s education:

  1. Stronger Home and School Connection

Parents who are more involved in their child’s early education will create a stronger connection between home and school. Such parents are more privy to the aspects of their child’s day, and will be able to:

  • Replicate and extend activities that a child experiences in school
  • Help a child work on areas they are having difficulty with to increase his/her confidence and competency
  • Have a greater sense of who their child’s friends are, how their child is developing socially, and if their little one is experiencing any difficulties.
  • Design home activities that coincide with classroom tasks.

By creating a stronger home and school connection, and ensuring that there is a cohesiveness to what your child learns at school, and what activities they participate in at home, you will help your little one learn faster and more effectively.

  1. Improved Social Skills

Parental involvement in a child’s early education has been shown to aid kids’ social functioning. In particular, children with involved parents tend to have better peer interactions than children with uninvolved parents.

Such children demonstrate more advanced social skills, which in turn may lead to better academic outcomes and an increase in self confidence.

  1. Enhanced Mental Health

Children with more involved parents show enhanced mental health. This is for several reasons, but the main one being parental involvement in education fosters kids’ self-esteem. In addition, such children will develop enhanced skills for regulating emotions, and are likely to feel negative emotions less often.

All in all, when parents choose to become more involved in their childrens’ education and school work, your little one will not only benefit in the classroom, but far beyond it.

In just 5 short months his knowledge has grown, his confidence is starting to bloom and he just loves learning! The personal touch the wonderful teachers provide is certainly priceless!  What I love is that when you walk in there, there is always calming music playing softly, and everyone is smiling and friendly
