Where are you located?

Our Montessori pre-school is located in the beautiful community of Evanston, in Northwest Calgary.

Why should I send my child to your Montessori school versus a traditional pre-school?

The Montessori program was designed to offer children opportunities to develop their full potential, keeping in mind that between the ages of 3-6 is the best time to create an understanding and appreciation of the importance of learning.

We are proud to offer your child a:

  • Wide array of subjects including math, language, science, culture, practical life and much more to create a solid foundation for future learning.
  • Well-rounded education. We partner with community members to bring a well-rounded education to your child including inter-generational visits to senior facilities, visits from healthcare practitioners to talk about wellness, dance/movement classes and much more AT NO EXTRA COST TO PARENTS!

Visit our community page for more information.

When do you accept registrations?

Our Montessori Academy accepts registrations throughout the year. We can even take registrations up to 2 years in advance. Be sure to register early to ensure your child is able to attend at the desired time and days of the week.

How do I set up a tour or learn more about Grey Matter Montessori?

We invite you to learn more about our Montessori program by setting up a private school tour with a director. During this time you will have the opportunity to see our bright and open classroom space, as well as learn more about our curriculum. You will even have the option to register at this time.

Please contact us here or call us at 587-707-4739 to schedule a private school tour.

How do I register my child for the Montessori program?

To register your child, please contact us to set up a time to come in. We will discuss your child’s needs and determine together if the Montessori program is the best fit for him/her.

A school director will meet with you to review the parent handbook and calendar of activities and complete the registration process!

PLEASE REMEMBER: Bring your child’s Alberta Health Care Number as it is required for our forms.

Does your Montessori Pre-school run all year?

Our Montessori school year follows the Calgary Board of Education Modified Calendar, meaning that it begins mid-August and ends the following June.

Why do you follow the Calgary Board of Education Modified School Calendar?

We chose a modified school year for our Montessori program to allow for effective and continuous learning. Students receive the same amount of instruction throughout the year, but by allowing for an earlier start, with some extra breaks in between, students are able to retain more of what they have learned.

Studies have shown that this approach alleviates problems associated with learning loss and that the balanced year is more suited to young learners.

Can my child come in for the full day?

We find that at this young age, 3 hours is the perfect amount of time for our students to maximize learning. Your child can attend either a morning class (8:30am-11:30am) or the afternoon class (12:30pm-3:30 pm).

We also recommend the 5 days a week program as our students benefit the most from the routine of coming to school every day. However, if this option doesn’t work for your schedule, we offer 2 days or 3 days a week as well.

There are local dayhomes in the area that offer before/after school care as well as transportation to and from our school.

How are the school fees paid?

To make it easy for the parents, all school fees are processed by credit card (Mastercard or Visa.)

Do you have a summer program?

Yes! Our Montessori Academy typically runs summer camps for the first 3 weeks in July (with the option to attend 1, 2 or all 3 weeks.) Summer is for fun and that’s what our camps are all about!

Teachers organize exciting and informative activities related to the theme of the week. Our camps run daily from 9am - 1pm.

Why do you have school uniforms?

Our students wear school uniforms in accordance with the Montessori principle to create a distraction-free environment which allows your child to focus solely on their learning.

Our Montessori preschool uniform consists of:

  • A white long/short sleeve polo with the Grey Matter logo on it
  • Navy pants/tunic/skorts and a sweater
  • Black/grey indoor, non-marking shoes

The polo shirt can be ordered directly at the school at the time of registration. To keep costs to a minimum, the rest of the items can be found at home or in other stores.
