4 Strategies To Motivate Your Child To Learn
What can you do when your child does not want to learn? The following tips will help your child find the motivation to discover the joy of learning.
Focus On Your Child's Interests
Learning becomes fun when it engages children in areas of their interests. If your child is interested in space, spends time with barbie dolls, or plays with cars and trucks, implement these interests into their learning. For instance, you can read books together about the wonders of space or learn about numbers by counting and sorting toy trucks. This will show your child that learning can be fun and that it is involved with everything that they do.
Share Your Enthusiasm For Learning
If your child sees that you are involved and enthusiastic about what they are learning, that enthusiasm will rub off on them. Whether it is math, science, language arts, or history, show your child that learning is an exciting journey filled with new discoveries. Your child will be excited that you are excited about learning, which will motivate them to keep exploring their interests and new topics both in school and at home.
Recognize And Celebrate Small Achievements
Children require consistent positive reinforcement to keep them motivated to learn and challenge themselves to do better. No matter how small the achievement, make sure to give a small reward to help them feel a sense of progression. For example, if your very shy child participated in school today, take them out for ice cream or make their favorite snack as a reward. Always use positive reinforcement to motivate learning as it teaches them that learning is not a punishment.
Introduce Different Learning Styles
Everyone, including your child, has their own learning preference and style. Given your child may not understand their preferred learning style, introduce all of them to see which one sticks. Helping your child discover their preferred learning style will improve their learning experience..
There are 5 fundamental learning styles:
- Visual
- Auditory
- Verbal
- Physical
- Logical
For young children, it is important that they experience all of these different learning styles so they can find which one (or a combination of the 5) they enjoy the most and are best at.
Motivate Your Child To Learn At Grey Matter Montessori
As a parent, you are invested in your child's academic life because you understand how important it is. Not all children (especially at the age of 4) will understand why learning and doing well in school is important for their future. But by implementing healthy learning habits at an early age, your child will find the motivation to learn, making their educational journey more exciting一rather than feeling like it is a chore.
Our team of educators at Grey Matter Montessori is committed to providing the highest quality of preschool education at our Calgary campus. We believe in the importance of motivating children to learn while helping them explore their interests to pave the way for educational success. We seek to educate the whole child in a supportive, nurturing, and stimulating classroom environment.
