Grey Matter Montessori Summer Camps Calgary: Spanish Camp

Did you know that children who speak more than one language display increased creativity and enhanced mental agility? Grey Matter Montessori brings the joy of learning and the benefits of a second (or third or fourth) language to our student population with Explorar Mexico! Preschool campers will experience full Spanish immersion through exciting and engaging activities, arts, crafts, games, cooking, and outdoor exploration. This summer, ignite your child’s passion for language and travel the world with our Montessori Spanish Summer Camp. Let’s explore some of the benefits of sharing the gift of language and culture with inquisitive and open minds.

“Excelente”  Facts About The Spanish Language And Culture To Share With Your Child

  • Over 559 million people around the world speak Spanish.
  • Spanish is the official language of 20 countries across Europe, South America, North America, and Africa.
  • Spanish in the Spanish language is Español. Some Spanish speakers also call their language Castellano.
  • English speakers use many Spanish words like siesta and tortilla in our everyday language.
  • Spain is the only European country to share a border with Africa- Morocco.
  • Spain has a royal family.
  • The Spanish language uses upside down exclamation marks and question marks and places them at the beginning and end of a phrase. (¿Que hora es? - What time is it?)

How A Child Benefits From Learning A New Language

A New Language Improves Memory And Concentration: Learning a second language has been shown to boost brain functions like problem-solving, listening, critical thinking, and the ability to multitask.

A New Language Increases Academic Success: Children who speak more than one language score higher on standardized tests for reading, writing, and math skills.

A New Language Encourages Global Stewardship: Exposing children to different languages and cultures at an early age encourages a more positive attitude to other cultures and places. An open mind fosters the growth of global citizens.

A New Language Comes Naturally: When children are exposed to the opportunity to learn a new language early, they leverage the same part of their brain to acquire that language as they did to learn their native language. And young children are naturally less inhibited and less worried about making mistakes or looking foolish the way an older child (or adult) may be.

A New Language Is Not Confusing: Some parents are hesitant to introduce a second language for fear that it may inhibit their child’s grasp and progress with their first language and even with speech. But in fact, the opposite is true. Learning a second language fosters new thought patterns, pathways, and primes the brain for enhanced skill acquisition.

Another shout out to an amazing school here in #Calgary! Our youngest son goes to this school and he loves it! In just 5 short months his knowledge has grown, his confidence is starting to bloom and he just loves learning! The personal touch the wonderful teachers provide is certainly priceless!  What I love is that when you walk in there, there is always calming music playing softly, and everyone is smiling and friendly
